After Mother Nature caused an unexpected delay for Astrolabe Days, The Gulf News Kite Festival to promote literacy finally returned after an almost decade-long hiatus.
The weather proved perfect for kite-flying, with a soft breeze helping to keep kites aloft on a hot sunny afternoon on Sunday, Aug. 12 at Grand Bay West Beach.
Rian Skinner’s homemade kite took first prize, and she walked away with some nifty prizes including books, art supplies and a $25 gift card. Other winners were also treated to bags, books and $10 gift cards. All 21 children who entered kites received their choice of books to take home as a thank you.
