GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, N.L. – Mounties are usually called upon to help people, but sometimes it’s our four-legged friends that need some assistance.
According to a release, the Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP received a call at 6:40 a.m. this morning, Aug. 10, from a resident who lives near the Exploits River reporting that their dog was in danger.
Apparently, sometime during the night, the 15-year-old chocolate Labrador retriever, named Mocha, had managed to roll down a steep embankment to the river’s edge.
Const. Phil Vautour responded to the call and made his way down the embankment to Mocha, who was injured and couldn’t walk.
Vautour was unable to bring the 80-pound dog back up the embankment, so he carried the animal some 500 metres along the edge of the Exploits, returning Mocha to the owner.
Mocha has since been taken to a veterinarian for medical care, the release notes.
