Minor baseball players from across the province have converged on Corner Brook this weekend for the Corner Brook Minor Baseball Association’s 13th annual Mary Tavenor Memorial Tournament, with activity slated for fields all over the city. The Western Star caught up with the Corner Brook Barons U14 girls squad, just one of the many teams competing, during a practice earlier in the week.

Question: What do you like most about baseball? What are you most looking forward to about competing in the Mary Tavenor Memorial Tournament this weekend?

I like the teamwork that we all put in because we just all work as a team and it’s really fun. … I think we’re going to have a great team this year.

Just playing it … the friends, the people. Having fun is what I’m most looking forward to.

Jill Callahan

The fact that all my friends are in it and it’s just a lot of fun. Probably to meet new people and play in a lot of fun games.

Makayla Bugden

Corner Brook

I love just getting out and playing the game with all my friends. Seeing if we can try to pull through and win, I guess.

Sommer Mosher

Corner Brook

I like playing the game. I just love baseball and my favourite part is probably meeting new friends and travelling with my friends. I’m really excited to play against some of my friends this weekend that I have in Grand Falls and other areas and I’m really excited to meet new friends.

Christina Karn

My favourite part is hitting and running the bases because it’s fun. Just playing baseball in general because I think it’s a really fun sport to get into because you’re always doing something.
